- Universität Salzburg (PLUS, Paris-Lodron) — 18 000 students. Humanities, sciences, theology, law. Five campuses across the city.
- Mozarteum — ≈ 1 600 students. Classical music conservatoire of world rank. Also drama, music education, dance.
Universities of applied sciences
- FH Salzburg (Urstein, near Hallein) — 3 000 students. Business, engineering, design, multimedia.
Private universities
- Paracelsus Medizinische Privatuniversität (PMU) — medicine + nursing science. Tuition ≈ €13 800/year.

- EU/EEA/Swiss: €0 within standard duration at PLUS, Mozarteum
- Non-EU: €726.72/semester at PLUS, Mozarteum; FH Salzburg ≈ €363/semester
- PMU: same fee for everyone
Application
PLUS, Mozarteum: 1 March – 5 September for the winter semester. FH Salzburg: rolling admissions until quotas fill (most close late May). Mozarteum auditions: January–February for the next September intake.
Language
Most bachelor programmes German B2/C1. Mozarteum and several Master programmes accept English-only.
